This Creamy Macaroni and Cheese is the only mac and cheese recipe you will ever need. Rich, decadent and creamy, this is the perfect comfort food dish!
Three words. Creamy macaroni and cheese.
Well, I guess that’s actually three words. Either way, I have your attention now don’t I? Is there any more of a comfort food in this universe and macaroni and cheese? For anyone who is confused by the question… the answer is no!
Macaroni and cheese is my go-to for anything that needs either a warm hug or a ridiculous celebration. Had a bad day? Macaroni and cheese will solve that. Had a great day and need to celebrate? Macaroni and cheese has that too! Good, bad, sad, happy… you name it… macaroni and cheese is the perfect comfort food to add into the mix.
As I have shown in my Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Ham, Guinness Irish Macaroni and Cheese and especially my Fried Salsa Verde Macaroni and Cheese Balls, macaroni and cheese can be done in a variety of ways. This particular recipe is for super Creamy Macaroni and Cheese. This is an easy peasy rich decadent sinful (gasp!) casserole dish for the soul.
The heart, maybe not so much. If you have a cardiologist on your speed dial you may want to take a smaller portion of this Creamy Macaroni and Cheese but if you have a clean bill of health by all means .. GO WILD!
This super Creamy Macaroni and Cheese is easy to bring together, super quick to make and throw in the oven and is so creamy that you will want to share this dish with everyone you meet. Or maybe I should say you will want to make a second batch and share THAT with everyone you meet because you definitely are not going to want to share the first casserole dish with anybody, you’re going to want to eat all of that yourself. Either way, believe me, you are going to love this version of mac and cheese.
And for the record, totally not judging on the mac n cheese hoarding… not that I’ve ever personally done that.
- 4 tbl butter
- 4 tbl flour
- 1 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne powder
- 1 10 oz can condensed cheddar soup
- 2/3 cup parmesan grated
- 12 oz sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- 4 oz swiss cheese
- 16 oz macaroni pasta
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to boil and prepare macaroni to box instructions, minus 1 minute. Drain and set aside
In a large saucepan or skillet, melt butter. Once melted, add in flour and whisk to combine. Cook for 1 minute
Pour in milk and cream and spices. Bring to a low boil, whisking constantly
Once a low boil has been reached, add in cheeses and soup and continue to stir until sauce is creamy and smooth
Combine pasta and sauce and pour into a 9 x 13 baking pan. Cook for 25 minutes and remove from oven. Let sit 5-10 minutes to set
Store bought shredded cheeses are great in a pinch but shredding your own off the block is soooo much better.
