These Frosted Rice Krispie Treats are NEW and IMPROVED but will still take you back to your favorite childhood treat.
There are some treats that will immediately take you back to your childhood, no matter what your age. Rice Krispie Treats is that magical transporter through space and time for me. And it’s impossible to say NO to because you can be on the strictest of eating regimens or just finished an eight course meal and when someones kid runs by with a hopped up square of goodness in his dirty little hand… well, lets just all agree that accidents happen and children are clumsy and who knows how that rice krispie treat ended up in your mouth.
Life is strange sometimes.
Of course we are not advocating tripping small humans for their chunks of marshmallowy goodness. What is going to be given to you is the best recipe around so that you can make your own pan and stop being a menace to society. Really.
As we all know, the original recipe is amazing and on the back of every box of rice cereal you pick up. What if I told you there was a better way? A new, improved, knock you into next week way?
There is!!!! With just a couple little tweaks using items you already have in your cabinet, you too will be making ROCKSTAR level Krispie treats. After much searching, I realized that I am sooo late to the party because everyone and their best friend has already been making the improved treats. What makes mine different can be summed up in one word…
HONEY!! Yes, regular bear bottle honey. The honey brings out another layer of sweetness and is just enough for everyone to know they are special but not too much that anyone can figure it out. JACKPOT!!!! Then smooth some amazing frosting on top … maybe some sprinkles too if you are feeling sassy… and you have no reason to continue scaring innocent children and stealing their after school snacks.

- 1 stick of butter
- 2 10 oz bags of mini-marshmallows
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbl honey
- 1 tbl vanilla
- 1 12 oz box of rice krispie cereal (or 10 cups)
- 1 tub pre-made vanilla frosting
- Sprinkles optional but are too fabulous not to add
In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat
Once butter is melted, add in marshmallows, vanilla, honey and sugar and stir constantly until marshmallows are completely melted
In a VERY large bowl, pour in rice cereal and then pour melted marshmallows on top of the cereal and immediately mix until all is well combined and the cereal is completely coated
Completely cover bottom / sides of either a 9x9 pan (extra thick) or a 13x9 pan pan with parchment paper and then spray the UP side of the parchment paper with a light coated of non-stick spray
Pour cereal into the pan and using your fingers are a spatula, press the cereal down until even
Let cool on the counter or place in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Spread frosting on top and then the sprinkles
