Bite sized Mini Wieners wrapped inside of tender croissant dough and packed full with melted cheese. Perfect for any game day!
Ok, so we are into week four of college football season. Life is good. There is all day long sports, there is an occasional frosty adult beverage, there is quality time with Big Scary Mike.
Yeah.. yeah .. yeah ….. get to the good stuff!! There’s DA FOOD!!!
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t happy about the abundance of finger foods and dippin’ sauces. Now, in this house we are somewhat ritualistic when it comes to our football grub. Not always, not every week… oh my Lord.. Weight Watchers, please forgive me for I have SINNED!!! Not even close but you had better believe that first week of play, we have an appetizer ritual and these Mini Wieners are a very important part of that. These amazing little bundles of hotness are part of the spread that I laid out that very first year I was
forced.. er…. decided to watch college ball with Mike. Prior to that, I was and still am a die-hard NFL girl only now the tables have turned and my heart belongs to the college boys. And how do these Mini Wieners come into play? Well, ask any sports fan and they will tell you ,if there is one thing that is sacred when it comes to a winning season, you don’t mess with tradition.
These little guys are easy to make, next to no clean up and deliver AWESOMENESS with only three ingredients.
Now you may notice that a few of your little wiener bombs may split open a bit. I can assure you that these are still perfectly good to eat… but maybe not acceptable to serve to company. Maybe these need to be left off the party platter.. maybe they just need to just be consumed by the cook in the kitchen.. in private.. without anybody else knowing about them.
I’ll let you be the judge of that one.
Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think… or just say Hi! I love hearing from you!!
- 1 8 oz can refrigerated croissant dough
- 12 oz package mini wieners
- 4 oz sliced cheese , your flavor choice
- (salt for garnish optional.. pretty in pics but maybe a bit too salty)
Open and unroll croissant dough and pour wieners into a bowl
Pinch together the croissant triangles side by side to create a square out of two pieces
With a sharp knife, cut down the middle of the square lengthwise and then across the pieces four times to create five little squares of dough
Pick one piece of dough up and place a small piece of cheese on it (close to the size of the dough, doesn't need to be exact) followed by a mini wiener
Carefully pull and roll the dough around the cheese / wiener until they are completely encased in dough. Be sure to pinch the dough together leaving no open gaps
Follow these instructions until you run out of wieners. Lay them out on a large sheet tray and then cook following the croissant can instructions.
You may end up with extra dough.. roll them into a proper croissant and cook them too 🙂
When they are done, remove from the oven and serve immediately
