Baked Brie with Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce is the ultimate quick, easy and delicious appetizer to add to any party, game day or holiday gathering.
If there is one food that speaks to my soul, it has to be cheese. Soft cheese, hard cheese, stinky cheese, it doesn’t even matter. I am a cheese addict and I fully admit that I have a problem. But even though there are thousands of cheese choices in this world, one of my favorites to this day has to be Baked Brie. That being said, hang on tight because we are getting down and dirty with it and adding to the greatness!! Trust me!
There is just nothing better than smothering a big dollop of brie on thick chunk of crusty bread and then topping that off with a bite of crisp apple. Nothing better!
We used to go to a restaurant when I was much younger and when given all the choices between cheeseburgers and chicken fingers and pasta, I was probably the only 12 year old to choose a big wheel of baked brie and a French baguette every time. I swear, my family probably paid the rent in that place, we were there so often, because anytime we went for dinner, that was the only place I wanted to go and it was only for … you guessed it…. da cheese!!!
Now, fast forward a few decades… um … years… (cough cough) and here we are. And with the holidays fast approaching, what better appetizer to entertain family and friends with than Baked Brie with Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce? Serve your brie alongside some crisp apples and some toasted walnuts and you get the best of all worlds. You have the softness of the cheese, the sweetness of the caramel and the crunch of the apples and walnuts. This is Heaven on an appetizer plate! Now, you can certainly use store-bought caramel sauce, but if you have some extra time, this Bourbon Salted Caramel Recipe is my favorite and is so quick and easy to make. Give it a try if you are inclined and if you prefer to not have alcohol in your recipes, feel free to leave it out. This recipe makes a beautiful caramel sauce with or without the bourbon.
I would also be remiss if I didn’t point out this is a lovely gift to wrap up for a loved one and talk about a super easy perfect light snack to quickly serve when friends and family decide to unexpectedly drop by.
Or are you like me and hide behind the couch when that doorbell rings when I am not expecting company? I swear the Amazon delivery guy has to think I am nut because I know he can see me run.
Happiness and Blessings! ~ Heather

- 8 oz wheel of brie cheese
- 2 large Honeycrisp Apples cut into wedges
- 1 cup walnuts toasted
- 4 tbl Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce
- 2 cup sugar
- 12 tbl butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbl salt
- 1 tbl bourbon
Start by making your caramel sauce. In a small saucepan over medium high heat, add sugar and stir until sugar is melted. It may clump, just keep whisking and cook until it turns a light amber color.
Once sugar is melted, add in butter and whisk until melted. Stir in bourbon. Remove from heat and add in cream and salt and whisk to incorporate. Set aside. Once cooled, you can pour into air-tight container and store in the refrigerator.
Next, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheating oven to 325 degrees
Remove brie from wrapping and place on baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
While brie is baking, heat a small skillet over medium high heat. Add walnuts and stirring constantly, cook until they look a shade darker and they smell toasty (just a few minutes)
Remove brie from oven and transfer to a serving platter. Add cut apple slices to the platter and drizzle caramel sauce over the brie and top with the toasted walnuts
