And what is the latest recipe to join the ranks? That’s right .. creamy, cheesy, Cheese Tortellini with Ham. This recipe is 100% comfort food and by that I mean you may need to renew your gym membership after eating this but hey .. that’s what cheat days are for, right?
Start by adding butter and diced onions to your skillet. Brown for 2-3 minutes until the onions are slightly cooked.
Dice up the ham steak into big chunks.
Add to the onions in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.
Then pour in the chicken stock and spices and the tortellini and bring to a boil. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, depending on how firm you like your tortellini. Remove from the heat once cooked and add in the cream, sour cream, cheese and Parmesan cheese and stir well to combine. Sprinkle with green onions and you are ready to serve.
HELPFUL TIPS
- Lightly salt the dish during cooking but reserve judgement until the end. Ham will add to the saltiness of the dish and you don’t want to over salt
- Lemon is a great equalizer – Be sure to add in a squeeze of lemon to cut through the richness of all that cream
- Check for tortellini doneness at around 9 minutes .. especially if you really like yours firm
- If ham is not your jam, substitute with any meat of your choice.. Italian sausage or kielbasa would be great in this dish

Hi Bill .. EEEK!! You add the spices in when you add the cream and cheese at the end. Thank you for asking .. I just updated the recipe to include those little buggers 🙂
Thanks for updating. I did not notice that I missed them until we were serving it. Everyone added their own salt and pepper to their serving. It was enjoyed by all. This one will stay in the book for future use. Thanks again.
Wow, this looks delicious! Quite yummy and decadent.
Oh yum! This looks so good! The tortellini looks delicious in all the ooey gooey stringy cheese! I want this so bad! Now I just need to find GF tortellini!
This dish is definitely not on my diet but if you are going to fall off the wagon.. heck .. you might as well just burn that sucker down! I am such a sucker for ooey gooey stringy cheese!
BOGO really means half price, and half price clearly means half the calories!!!!!! So I think you can eat a big bowl of this and call it healthy 😉
No? I am sure that is right!! It is like a broken biscuit has no calories as they fell out when it broke!!!!
But Oh My Goodness!!! This cheesy sauce looks amazing, I fell in love when I saw that forkful of stringy cheese. YUMMO!!!! And the chives are an inspired idea.
Pinning this one 🙂
Claire you and I should be best friends because we think exactly the same way!!!! HAHAHAHA!!! Thanks so much .. this is my new ‘Get out of jail free’ card with my husband… I spend too much on Halloween decorations? Mike gets tortellini… Didn’t feel like folding the laundry? .. Mike gets tortellini … So far, its working .. lol
Haha!!! That is brilliant!
I tend to fall back to sandwiches. Stew loves sandwiches! If you are really in a jam, then a fish finger sandwich and a bottle of beer solves most things in our house.
Clair, you can never go wrong with a fish sandwich and a bottle of beer 🙂 haha
Love this comfort dish!
Thank you!!!!
This is comfort food at its best! So cheesy and yummy looking!
Thanks Stephanie! This is definitely a favorite in this house now 🙂
